RANDALL L. SMITH

Smith Quality Homes

Randall L. Smith is recognized nationally as an industry advocate and past president of the National Association of Home Builders. A fourth generation Californian and second generation home builder, Randy started out in the family business over 37 years ago. His father, Harold Smith, a home builder and former Hall of Fame honoree, was a tremendous influence in his life. Randy knew what he wanted early in life, and went to work building homes for his dad upon graduation from Stockton's University of the Pacific.

Today, Randall and his brother Bruce own Smith Quality Homes, Inc., a company that has evolved from the Smith family business that his father founded 61 years ago. Randy is known as much for his association activism as his business expertise, and his record of activism chronicles the progress Home Builders Association of Northern California has made over the last 35 years. He helped found the Young Home Builders Council in the 1960's, which later became the Bay Area' s HBA Educational Council. Randy and his father were among a group of builders who realized that five local organizations needed to merge into one regional association. With vision, patience and perseverance, the organizations did come together forming the regional association, Home Builders Association of Northern California, as it is known today.

Loving the industry and volunteering to support and strengthen it has brought many personal rewards to Randy that have been shared with his family. Randy and wife Dorie live in Lafayette. They are the proud parents of three daughters and a son, and grandparents of three. Both Randy and Dorie are avid flying enthusiasts who frequently make use of their own plane. They also enjoy hunting, fishing, backpacking and motorcycle riding.
