Endowments are monetary gifts providing perpetual funding for the California Homebuilding Foundation's scholarship, education, and research programs. Unlike current-use gifts, which may be spent completely for immediate needs, endowment gifts are invested and only the earned income portion of the investment can be spent. A majority of Foundation endowments are established by California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame Honorees, Board of Trustees and industry friends and supporters.

Meet Our Benefactors

California Homebuilding Foundation endowments are carefully managed under the direction of its Board of Trustees, and assisted by an investment committee, a professional investment advisor and experienced Foundation staff to generate permanent, ongoing support for postsecondary students in a building program, high school construction training education, and industry grant funding and research.

The Foundation offers four unique investment options for you to maximize the impact and outreach of each gift:

Education Endowments

An Education Endowment maintains and helps ensure the permanence of the Donald Chaiken– Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA). The BITA program is a hands-on, project-based high school construction training program. The program’s mission is to provide a trained workforce to meet industry demand, offset worker retirement, and help avoid labor shortages. BITA also enhances the publics perception of the building industry, its diverse career opportunities, and hardworking employees.

Research Endowments

Research endowments fund independent studies on issues critical to the development of housing in California.

At the California Homebuilding Foundation, we help advocates address some of the biggest challenges for homebuilders and help create a better solution while focusing on issues critical to the development of new housing and communities in California.

The Foundation provides research on a wide range of topics including housing affordability, construction dispute resolution, smart growth, land use, and local growth policies.

Operational Endowments

An Operational Endowment for the California Homebuilding Foundation provides an ongoing stream of operating money to support our work for generations to come.

Benefits of an operational endowment include an ongoing source of income, long-term stability and fiscal responsibility, helps relieve pressure on our annual fund and program expansions, while helping us meet new challenges by providing greater financial flexibility and self-sustaining income to allow us to continue our programs in support of homebuilding in California.

Scholarship Endowments

California Homebuilding Foundation scholarships are funded by endowments. Scholarship Endowments include a number of philanthropic gifts donated to the Foundation since 1985. Scholarship endowments were established to support students in building programs. Scholarship endowments are made up of more than 85 individual funds.

California Homebuilding Foundation scholarship endowments provide support for nearly 125 students annually in building programs, allowing students to focus on academics and increasing their chances of staying in school and graduating on time. A scholarship reinforces self-confidence and gives the power of resilience, impacting students for generations to come.
