Ian Gill has over 40 years’ experience in real estate development, homebuilding, and general contracting. His diverse background encompasses residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use projects in the US and UK with emphasis on urban and redevelopment projects.
He is a Managing Member of Silvergate Development, LLC, a real estate development and investment company, and the co-owner and President of Highland Partnership, Inc., a locally owned general contractor operating throughout Southern California. Highland is recognized as a leader in innovative, client-driven project delivery systems, such as Integrated Project Delivery.
As a founding principal of Highland, Mr. Gill has guided the strategic direction of the firm, focusing on non-traditional project procurement mechanisms which add value for its clients. Highland’s recent projects include the Chula Vista Police Headquarters and three-phase Civic Center, the twin tower, 18-story tower Aqua Vista residential project in Little Italy, San Diego State University’s Health Services Building and Gateway, College of Extended Studies and the House of Blues and Palomar Hotel in downtown San Diego. Highland recently completed the Vista City Hall in North San Diego County, Rady Children’s Hospital’s first satellite clinic in Oceanside and several urban mixed-use projects, including Celadon, a 17-story, 250-unit affordable housing project in Downtown San Diego.
Mr. Gill served for six years as outsourced project executive for the Centre City Development Corporation’s creation and implementation of the Downtown San Diego Ballpark District. During this time, he was involved in coordinating the agency’s activities and interfacing with city staff, the Padres, and Master Developer, JMI, on all aspects of this landmark, twenty-six block project, including PETCO Park.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, he holds a Master of Science Degree in Real Estate and Construction and is a Member of the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Quantity Surveying Division in Great Britain.
Mr. Gill is actively engaged in the community and industry-related organizations, currently serving as a Director on the Building Industry Association’s Urban Council. He serves on the Citizens Advisory Committee for Chula Vista’s redevelopment of the 500-acre Bayfront. He is a Past President of the San Diego Chapter of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary Land Use Economics Society. He chaired and served on several committees for the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and is a Past President of the San Diego Chapter of the BIA, Past Chairman and founding member of the Commercial Industrial Council of BIA and a Board Member for the RICS, Southern California Chapter. He also chairs the Policy Advisory Board of the Burnham Moore’s Center at USD and serves on the Executive Committee of the Chancellors Community Advisory Board for UCSD.
Mr. Gill holds a Class B General Contractor’s license in the State of California and is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEEDTM 2.0 Accredited Professional.
He is married to Gail Stoorza, a renowned Public Relations and Marketing Professional. They have a 33-year-old daughter, Alexandra. He is a cyclist, skier and snowboarder, and loves tinkering with vintage sports cars. Mr. Gill also enjoys mentoring and teaching young people in the Real Estate Industry as an instructor for USDs MSRE Program and moderator for ULI’s Young Leaders Program.
